The Week in Words (Sept. 24)

These days, most of us spend an inordinate amount of time perusing the Internet. I am not an exception.

In fact, I fully admit that I spend way too much time online.

I’ve thought about that a good bit—and I think for me it really boils down to a couple things. First, I live alone and logging in makes me feel less isolated. And second, my job requires hours each day spent in front of a computer screen and regular email check-ins.

But it’s also an addiction of sorts. It’s just habit to stop what I’m doing to see what’s happening on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I wouldn’t want to let anything pass me by, after all!

That said, I’m going to be making more of an effort to put the phone to the side in the coming months. That doesn’t mean that I’m going to stop taking pics of my sweet Addie bug or stop posting on social media.

But what it does mean is that I’m going to take more pauses.

Because I spend hours a day attached to the computer, I know my physical and mental health can benefit from more time with the phone over to the side as I read an actual book, exercise, watch TV, and interact with others. So I going to consciously try and put my phone to the side—to pause for real life.

Last week, Lin-Manuel Miranda tweeted something profound:

Ostensibly, it’s about a part of speech. But I think the comma has a place in our lives, too. One that can help pause our thoughts and pace our minds, as Miranda so beautifully states.

So, here’s to the comma—and the pause!

Best bite

Each week, I’ll drop in a pic and description of my favorite sip or bite—and a recommendation, too!

I made another thing! This week’s culinary adventure was Italian Chicken and Vegetables in Foil. Recipe here.

Yummy, easy, and flavorful! And good for me, too. That’s a win!

Favorite Reads

Still reading Beach Music by Pat Conroy. Made much more progress in the last week, so here’s hoping pausing more often will let me finish it up!

During my workout this morning, I finished up Tending Roses by Lisa Wingate. Next up will be The Tuscan Child by Rhys Bowen, which I’m thinking I’ll start listening to on the planes on Wednesday!

I also really enjoyed reading How Tiger Woods overcame pain and scandal to triumph again to win the Tour Championship for first victory in five years. No one among us is perfect—we are all sinners. It’s so inspiring to watch someone overcome multiple serious issues, including major health problems, to seize a second chance. And to see that person behave with a totally different mindset and gratitude is amazing.

Auntie’s baby

Now surely, you didn’t think I’d create a blog without my baby love in it, right?!

My first baby love with my latest baby love. 🧡💛💚💙💜

Questions I’m pondering…

These things are on my mind—if you know the answer, please share! Sometimes these will be light-hearted, other times they will not.

I’ve got nothing this week, y’all! I’m just ready to be on vacation.

Wrapping things up

Almost time to really pause—vacation is in less than 48 hours now! Hope you and yours have a blessed week and take the opportunity now and then to insert a comma.

See you next week.
